AICS is the only provider of primary medical services to Wrangell and the small communities on the north end of Prince of Wales Island (Point Baker, Port Protection, Coffman Cove, Whale Pass, Naukati, and Edna Bay). These services are provided by physicians and mid-level practitioners skilled in comprehensive first contact and continuing care for persons with any undiagnosed sign, symptom or health concern. AICS services include health promotion, disease prevention, health maintenance, counseling, patient education, diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic illnesses in a variety of health care settings (e.g., office, inpatient, critical care, long-term care, and home care). These primary care services are performed and managed by a personal physician or mid-level practitioner, utilizing other health professionals, consultation and/or referral as appropriate. AICS provides patient advocacy in the health care system to accomplish cost effective care by coordination of health care services. AICS actively promotes effective doctor-patient communication and encourages the role of the patient as a partner in health care.

The AICS outpatient clinic is located at the Wrangell Medical Center (a critical access hospital and long-term care facility). Except for the visiting physician specialists, AICS provides all physician care for Wrangell Medical Center's acute care, long-term care, and emergency room.
